Ioannis Mirtsopoulos received his Diploma in Architectural Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and continued his studies at Delft University of Technology, graduating with a MSc in Building Technology. There he specialized in Structural Mechanics and Design Informatics, delving into topology optimization processes and structural capacity of additive manufacturing. During his graduation, he proposed an alternative topology optimization methodology applied to nodes of space frame structures together with Ir. Andrew Borgart. Following that, he further expanded his knowledge of digital fabrication and robotics through an MAS in the Chair of Architecture and Digital Fabrication (Gramazio & Kohler) at ETH Zurich, working on the robotic fabrication of Catalan vaulting.
His interests lie in computation, structural design, topology optimization, digital fabrication, additive manufacturing, robotics, prototyping, FRP and material science.
During his leisure time, he enjoys long distance swimming, cycling and running.
