The book "Shell Structures for Architecutre: Form Finding and Optimization", published by Routledge - Taylor & Francis Group, with next to Prof. Block and Diederik Veenendaal of the BLOCK Research Group, Sigrid Adriaenssens and Chris Williams as co-editors, is now available in the UK as hardback, paperback or e-book, but also as iBook.

The BLOCK Research Group is happy to welcome Dave Pigram, design faculty at the Department of Architecture at UT Sydney and partner of the office supermanoeuvre, as visiting faculty until January 2015.

A nice Funicular Funnel Shells prototype was realized during the design-build workshop organized by the BLOCK Research Group at ILEK, University of Stuttgart, Germany. CNC-cut and milled timber elements were slotted together with connector pieces and balanced by one tension (cable) tie along the outer edge.

Matthias Rippmann and Masoud Akbarzadeh are organizing, together with Oliver Gericke, from July 14-18 a design-build workshop on Funicular Funnel Shells at the Institute of Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design (ILEK) at the University of Stuttgart, Germany.

Invited by Prof. Mark Pauly to a mini-symposium on "architectural geometry" at the 8th international Conference "Curves and Surfaces", Prof. Block will give a talk "on the geometry of the equilibrium of forces".

The International Concrete Design Competition for Students is a biennial competition for students in architecture, engineering and design. Diederik Veenendaal will be on the jury of this year's Dutch edition, evaluating the submissions on June 5, with the final awards ceremony on June 12.
